Men In Blue are unbeaten in the tournament whereas the Black Caps have lost one match in the group-stage and interestingly, that was against India. So, both teams have played against each other once and are aware of the playing conditions in Dubai.
But certain rules are new for the knockout matches in this edition. Let's take a look at some of the important rules before the summit clash in Dubai
Reserve DayAlthough there is almost no chance of rain on Sunday, but in case of a wash out, the match will be resumed on the next day, i.e, Monday, just like the semi-final match between India and New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
If the play is not possible on Monday as well, then the trophy will be shared between the two teams.
Two Hours Of Additional TimeThe ICC playing conditions state that all efforts will be made to complete the 2025 Champions Trophy final on the scheduled day, Sunday, March 9. Up to two hours of additional time is available on both the original day and a reserve day.
fcl-777“If play is interrupted on the scheduled day, the umpires will utilize the extra time available and, if necessary, reduce the number of overs to try to reach a result on that day,” according to the playing conditions for the 2025 Champions Trophy final.
“In making decisions related to the ground, weather, and light, the umpires will aim to maximize play on the scheduled day of the match in order to achieve a result on that day, as if no reserve day were available.”
Minimum Overs To Constitute A MatchIn the final, for any result to come, both teams need to play at least 25 overs on match day or reserve day. If play has not resumed by the cut-off time required to allow the minimum number of overs (25) to be bowled to achieve a result on the scheduled day, play shall be abandoned for the day and the final will be moved to the reserve day.
The play shall resume on the Reserve day from where it was left on the match day. No new match will be played.
The judgement is justified both on constitutional and academic grounds.
